This program is designed to teach drafting knowledge and skills through both board drafting and computerized programs such as AutoDESK’s AutoCAD & Bentley’s Microstation. Students develop the necessary knowledge and skills to function in the entry level. Students will learn to produce drawings applying dimensioning, sectional views, pictorial drawings, drafting symbols, orthographic projections, including standards and techniques commonly utilize in business and industry. Students will learn to use conventional drafting tools and equipment, computer software to produce working drawings used in a variety of disciplines.
Drafting is a graphic language utilized to effectively communicate ideas and plans. Any product that is manufactured (from shoes to space probes) or any building that is built (from houses to skyscrapers) and any road that is constructed (from access roads to interstate highways) requires drawings and drafting is necessary to produce these drawings. Therefore there are innumerable possible job opportunities and careers in drafting and its related fields.
